Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre Visits Dometic Marine in Richmond, BC to Discuss Manufacturing and the Luxury Tax

As part of NMMA's proactive advocacy, working to engage with all parties to help address the key issues facing our industry, Dometic Marine and NMMA Canada had the pleasure of welcoming Pierre Poilievre, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, to Dometic’s manufacturing facility in Richmond, BC last week.

The visit offered Poilievre a first-hand look at Dometic’s advanced production capabilities and manufacturing processes, as well as an opportunity to meet with employees on the shop floor. Over 100 Dometic employees gathered to welcome the Conservative leader, who spoke on the critical role of skilled manufacturing jobs in strengthening Canada’s marine sector and overall economy. Mr. Poilievre took the time to meet with employes and answer questions.

NMMA Canada took the opportunity to underscore the pressing need to “axe the luxury tax” on recreational boats. Leveraging the industry data, NMMA’s executive director, Marie-France MacKinnon, highlighted how the tax, though originally intended to target high-end luxury purchases, has instead burdened middle-class workers, small businesses and stifled economic growth in rural communities reliant on marine manufacturing. 
Poilievre engaged in a thoughtful discussion on the broader economic impacts, showing keen interest in the job losses documented by NMMA Canada since the tax’s implementation. Poilievre’s stance on reducing financial burdens and advocating for Canadian manufacturing aligns closely with NMMA Canada’s call for a repeal of the luxury tax. His visit demonstrates NMMA Canada's commitment to on-going, strategic and collaborative advocacy efforts.
