The 1995 Charles Chapman award was presented to Robert O. Cox, who made a lifelong career of promoting and protecting the marine industry as an ocean racer, marina owner and nautical professional engineer who went into politics.
Cox embarked on a lifelong career of promoting and protecting the industry and other civic activities on a local, state and national level. Cox founded and was an early president of Marine Industries Association of Broward County; he is also former chairman of the Marine Advisory Board of Ft. Lauderdale, a former member of the National Boating Safety Advisory Council of the U.S. Coast Guard and past chairman of the Shipyard Museum in Clayton, NY.
